Moto G India launch details to be announced on February 5 Motorola

Motorola, putting an end to speculation about the Moto Gs India launch, has confirmed it will announce the budget smartphone for the country on February 5.

Motorola confirmed the news on Twitter and said, "Moto G launch details for India will be announced on February 5. Stay tuned!" Unfortunately, the Google-owned company has revealed no details about the pricing of the Moto G for the Indian market.

Motorola officially unveiled the Moto G smartphone at an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil in November last year. The Motorola Moto G has been said to be available in at least 30 countries with 60 Google partners by 2014.

The Moto G is currently on sale in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru, UK, Germany, France, and Canada and is now also available in selective countries in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

The Motorola Moto G is available with no contract, no SIM lock and an unlockable bootloader at $179 (Rs. 11,300 approximately) for the 8GB storage model in US, while the 16GB variant is available at $199 (Rs. 12,600 approximately). Notably, there is no option for expandable storage available.

Recently, Motorolas chief executive Dennis Woodside on price strategy was quoted saying, "There will be different phones at different price points but were going to be very aggressive there."

An earlier report has already indicated that Motorola will launch a dual-SIM variant of the Moto G in India.

Motorola announced the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update over-the-air (OTA) for its Moto G budget smartphone in December last year.

Motorola to Releases a Maintenance Fix Update for the Droid Razr and Razr Maxx

Original Motorola Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx users have been receiving invites from Motorola to test out the latest software update for these devices. Invites were being sent out through the Motorola Feedback Network to a select group of Droid Razr and Razr Maxx customers, informing them that the software update is a preview of a “new software release”.

However there’s little cause to rejoice, as the update does not bump up the Android version on these handsets to Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Motorola has clearly stated earlier that these devices would, unfortunately, stay back on Android 4.1.2 Jellybean. This is to be expected as the devices almost two years old, but an update to Android 4.2 would have been nice.

In the latest details released by Motorola, we have received confirmation that this update is definitely a bug fix release and does not add any new functionality. In the official statement Motorola clarifies that the update would hit Verizon Motorola Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx devices. The update specifically addresses a bug that caused data connectivity issues while roaming in Canada on the Telus GSM and UMTS networks as well as another bug that caused data roaming warnings to appear while connecting to an extended network, specifically in Alaska.

Apart from the bug fixes, we would also expect some bloatware to come in too. Motorola does point out that once it is installed, this update cannot be rolled back; so be advised to use your discretion while choosing to update. We would advise you to have your battery charged to at least 50% to ensure it doesn’t turn off during the update process. Also, just so you know, updating the software over the carrier’s (Verizon’s) network will not result in any additional data charges.
