Verizon To Offer A Rose Gold Galaxy Note 3 To Users Who Want Just A Touch Of Uniqueness

Initially, the Rose Gold colored Galaxy Note 3 that we had previously reported on was said to be getting a location specific release in the Chinese market before other regions, but we have reason to believe otherwise thanks to a new tweet from @evleaks, that states Verizon will be offering the Rose Gold edition Galaxy Note 3. The Rose Gold Note 3 as pictured above will have a black and white variation available, but what is still unconfirmed is whether or not VZW will get both colors although it is likely that they would. There isn’t much of a difference between the Rose Gold and the original Black and White Note 3 devices, except the detailing which you can clearly discern is of a gold colored accent instead. It isn’t much of a change but some people will love the ability to have a device with a slightly different look.

Other than the gold colored accents, there’s nothing else different about this version of the device compared to the original models. They carry the exact same specs. So the only really draw here is aesthetics. If you want a device that has a touch of uniqueness to it and were considering upgrading to the Galaxy Note 3, perhaps waiting for the Rose Gold edition might be a smart move. From a personal standpoint, what Samsung should have done is somehow change the back, as that faux leather look is simply atrocious. This is solely an opinion however and many people love it. These new devices as stated above will sport the same battery, the same size and quality and type of display, the same amount of RAM, the same cameras, and literally everything else that the Galaxy Note 3 offers is the same.

The Rose Gold color is not the only new color that Samsung will be releasing of this device, as they’re slated to launch a “Merlot Red” Note 3 sometime as well. The Merlot Red definitely has a nice look to it when compared to the Rose Gold, especially since it has more than just colored accents with the same colored front and back. Samsung has had some bad ideas in the design department before, but they normally offer devices that look really sleek. The Red Note 3 appears to be a little more visually stunning and capture the attention a little better, so there’s that. We don’t have any word on when the Rose Gold or the Merlot Red edition Note 3’s will launch, but it most likely won’t be too far off. Perhaps we’ll see something pop up at MWC next month?

Sprint Wants To Transform The Negative Stigma Of Carrier Bloat Into A Positive One With Sprint Live

We’ve all been there at one point or another. That moment where you’re fumbling around with a new phone and instead of enjoying the brand new piece of hardware or customizing everything to your liking, you’re scratching your head in disbelief and cursing your carrier for putting useless apps on your phone that seem to only bog it down and take up space. While some don’t mind or otherwise enjoy the carrier apps that come pre-loaded onto new phones, most hate it and honestly we have to agree that their kind of pointless. Whatever your own personal feelings on the matter, the overall stigma of carrier branded apps or “bloatware” as they’re more commonly known, is negative. Sprint wants to change the outlook on bloatware, by introducing their new service called Sprint Live. Sprint Live is to replace Sprint ID which is what the carrier currently uses on phones, and they promise it will be an overall better and more engaging form of the bloatware.

Sprint Live is a service that is powered by Chinese company NQ mobile, and it’s goal is to provide the user with a seamless and always on experience, that replaces the normal home screen wallpaper and keeps you up to date and informed with all kinds of content that is specialized for you, ranging from information about brands, to specific news that you’re interested in. While it sounds like tailored content is a better option than what most carriers use now since you’ll at least have an interest in what shows up, bloat is still bloat. The option to have the service installed on the phone should be just that, an option. While you can most likely turn the service off, (this can’t be confirmed at the time as there are no phones currently being offered by Sprint that use the service) it would still reside on your phone and thus take up memory. From a personal experience, bloat doesn’t always take up the least amount of memory either. Peek A Boo Martian rock baffles NASA scientists

A "jelly doughnut-sized" rock has appeared in front of the Opportunity rover on Mars, and scientists cant figure out where it came from, Discovery News reports. The discovery was revealed by Mars Exploration Rover lead scientist Steve Squyres in a "10 years of roving Mars" keynote at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory last night. "Mars keeps throwing new stuff at us!" he exclaimed, discussing past rover findings, but this time, he meant it literally.

The rock, which scientists have dubbed "Pinnacle Island," appeared in front of Opportunity for one of two reasons, NASA says: the rover flipped the rock as it maneuvered, or the rock landed there after a nearby meteorite impact. Either way, the intrepid Opportunity now has something new to look at. "[The rock] obligingly turned upside down, so were seeing a side that hasnt seen the Martian atmosphere in billions of years and there it is for us to investigate," Squyres said. HTC Evo 3D saves its owner by taking a bullet UPDATE

We all know the amazing things that the average smartphone can do. The device can not only make and take calls, but we can find out in real time traffic conditions on our commute home, get stock prices for even the most obscure company, catapult an Angry Bird at a pig and within seconds, listen to a radio station from a city hundreds of miles away. We can watch and even upload videos to YouTube, watch CNN talk about yet another school shooting, and receive the Smedley contract to revise and send out by email for electronic signature.

With all of the things that the average smartphone can do, one thing that you do not expect from your handset is for it to take a bullet for you and save your life. But that is exactly what happened to an unnamed Hess clerk in Winter Garden, Florida. The mans HTC EVO 3D took the brunt of a gunshot fired by a robber who fired a revolver at the clerk. The robber went into the gas station and forced two clerks to try to open the safe. When neither could, the intruder left, but not before firing off a round at one of the men. Luckily, the bullet was intercepted by the phone and the clerk never knew he was shot until he fished his HTC EVO 3D out of his pocket.

The shooter remained at large as of Monday afternoon. While the clerk suffered minor injuries, the HTC EVO 3D pretty much bought the farm. PhoneArena

Motorola to Releases a Maintenance Fix Update for the Droid Razr and Razr Maxx

Original Motorola Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx users have been receiving invites from Motorola to test out the latest software update for these devices. Invites were being sent out through the Motorola Feedback Network to a select group of Droid Razr and Razr Maxx customers, informing them that the software update is a preview of a “new software release”.

However there’s little cause to rejoice, as the update does not bump up the Android version on these handsets to Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Motorola has clearly stated earlier that these devices would, unfortunately, stay back on Android 4.1.2 Jellybean. This is to be expected as the devices almost two years old, but an update to Android 4.2 would have been nice.

In the latest details released by Motorola, we have received confirmation that this update is definitely a bug fix release and does not add any new functionality. In the official statement Motorola clarifies that the update would hit Verizon Motorola Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx devices. The update specifically addresses a bug that caused data connectivity issues while roaming in Canada on the Telus GSM and UMTS networks as well as another bug that caused data roaming warnings to appear while connecting to an extended network, specifically in Alaska.

Apart from the bug fixes, we would also expect some bloatware to come in too. Motorola does point out that once it is installed, this update cannot be rolled back; so be advised to use your discretion while choosing to update. We would advise you to have your battery charged to at least 50% to ensure it doesn’t turn off during the update process. Also, just so you know, updating the software over the carrier’s (Verizon’s) network will not result in any additional data charges.

Amazon rumored to hire HTC for a Kindle smartphone

According to a report in The Financial Times, HTC and Amazon are working together on an upcoming smartphone. The article goes further to point that there are three different devices in the works, with one of them being in advanced stage of development.

Amazon has not responded to requests for comment on the report, though it stated that it has “no plans to offer a phone this year”. HTC’s chief of marketing Ben Ho also declined to comment on the Amazon partnership, but said that the manufacture is “always exploring new opportunities”.
A partnership with Amazon could give HTC a break from its troubles, as the device will likely be a high-volume product which will give the ailing company’s balance sheet a welcome boost. It will also represent a back to basics approach for the Taiwanese manufacturer, which made a name for itself by producing hardware under different brands.
As far as Amazon is concerned, a potential cooperation with HTC will signal an even more aggressive stance towards the market for mobile devices. The current family of Kindle Fire devices has been developed in-house by the retail behemoth. GSMArena

Windows Phone 8 1 Blue will be unveiled along side two devices codenamed after a James Bond Movie

While Nokia and Microsoft are yet to roll out the GDR3 update with Lumia Black customizations, the rumor mill is already looking ahead for the next years WP 8.1 Blue release.
The WP 8.1 Blue has been in the rumorland for a while and all reports so far suggest it will finally bring notification center, better multi-tasking and a Siri-like Cortana voice assistant. The WP 8.1 is expected to be announced at the upcoming MWC in Barcelona early next year.
The famous @evleaks tipster struck again today with another juicy rumor - the upcoming WP 8.1 Blue will debut on two Lumia devices codenamed Goldfinger and Moneypenny Lumias. There are no specifications of either of those provided just yet, but it is believed the Goldfinger will be the flagship model with the Nokias long developed "3D Touch" technology.

HTC might be planning on a nice and disruptive tablet wearable devices are also on its list

HTC will look to wearables and a new tablet in order to try to reclaim market share, the company has teased, promising “something nice and disruptive” for its new slate. The company has been slow to capitalize on recent attention in either segment, though according to CEO Peter Chou that’s because many such devices – particularly smartwatches – have been more gimmicks than anything else, the Financial Times reports.

“It has to meet a need, otherwise if it’s just a gimmick or concept, it’s not for people’s day-to-day lives” Chou said, describing the wearables market as “still too early” and some of the existing products from HTC’s rivals – presumably including Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Kickstarter-success Pebble – “version one”. However, Chou argues, that leaves a space HTC could step into.

“That is an opportunity for us,” he suggested. “People laughed at us when we came out with the first smartphone … Now everyone has a smartphone. I’m pretty sure wearables will be the same, but don’t judge from what is in the market [now].”

Chou was recently tipped to be scaling back on his day to day operational duties as CEO to instead focus more time on R&D efforts, something unofficial reports from within HTC suggest he is considerably involved in.

Exact details on what the HTC wearable and tablet might look like are unclear. However, according to HTC chairman Cher Wang, when the tablet comes out it will be something nice and disruptive,” teasing that “ubiquitous intelligence is not just wearables.”

That could imply a greater focus on contextual computing, something we’ve seen Motorola attempt recently with the Moto X. Wearables, meanwhile, match “what we do today as a mobile experience overall” Chou suggested. “That is one area we are excited about.”

HTC hasn’t had a tablet since the ill-fated Flyer and Jetstream, which pre-empted the pen-enabled tablet trend but, for a number of reasons – not least being very expensive, even with carrier subsidies – failed to make significant inroads into the market. More recently, the company revealed the HTC One max, a 5.9-inch “phablet” that the company says it expects many owners to use both as a phone and a compact tablet. SlashGear
